The conversation began with Matt and Dolly talking about her children’s album and Imagination Library project, when Matt broached the subject with Dolly about her decision to not have children.
“God has a plan for everything, but I’ve said, ‘I think it was His plan for me not to have kids so everybody’s kids could be mine. And they are now,” Dolly explained.
They are because Dolly created the Dolly Parton Imagination Library where she sends age-appropriate books to children, ages newborn to Kindergarten, to foster reading in children and so she could ensure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income. The foundation is approaching the milestone of giving away its 100 millionth book in the coming weeks.
It’s pretty well known that children of all ages love Dolly Parton. When asked why they seemed to be drawn to her, Dolly was quick with the reason.
“I just love kids. I have that high-pitched voice, I’m over-exaggerated, I look like mother goose or one of those over-exaggerated cartoon characters and kids just kind of relate to that,” she said.
Or it could be her kind soul, her big heart or hilarious sense of humor —there are just too many reasons why all of us kids love Dolly.
