Dustin Lynch ACM Honors

One day after he was invited to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry, Dustin Lynch was hitting the red carpet for the ACM Honors at the Ryman Auditorium on Wednesday night (Aug. 22).

Dustin was on hand to pay tribute to Songwriter of the Year recipient Rhett Akins, by performing a medley of Rhett’s songs. Dustin took the stage with Rhett’s writing partners, Dallas Davidson and Ben Hayslip, to sing “Huntin,’ Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day,” “I Lived It” and his very own No. 1 hit, “Small Town Boy.”

But it was before the festivities began that One Country‘s Kelly Sutton caught up with Dustin on the ACM Honors red carpet to congratulate him on his Opry invitation and get the story about how it all went down.

“Why I did [the Opry], we were there to honor [Trace Adkins’] 15th anniversary so he was stepping out talking to acts during their set,” Dustin tells One Country. “So when he walked out it was like ‘oh, he’s about to ask me some questions and goof off and then throw it back to me.’ I didn’t think anything of it. He started talking about how special membership was and in his lifetime achievements it’s definitely up there at the very top and how important carrying on that tradition was with new artists and that’s when it hit me, ‘holy cow he’s about to ask me.'”

And the rest is history.
