While Eric Church has been sharing songs from his sixth studio album Desperate Man, the singer will officially release his second single, “Some of It,” to radio on January 14.
The follow-up to the lead track, “Desperate Man,” “Some of It” has Eric singing about those lessons that we encounter in life. Where “Desperate Man” is a ’70s rock n’ roll uptempo song about trying to move on after a lost love, “Some of It,” is laid-back tune that disperses life lessons and how we deal with them —learn them, know them and deal with them.
“Some of it you learn the hard way / Some of it you read on a page / Some of it comes from heartbreak / Most of it comes with age / And none of it ever comes easy / A bunch of it you maybe can’t use / I know I don’t prob’ly know what I think I do / But there’s somethin’ to / Some of it,” he sings in the chorus.
In a video on Instagram, Eric shares the story behind his latest single written by Eric, Jeff Hyde, Clint Daniels and Bobby Pinson. In fact, “Some of It” almost didn’t make the album. However, thanks to Eric’s wife, the song got a second life and became the second single from Desperate Man.
“I think it’s really interesting that the album took on an identity that allowed ‘Some Of It’ to make it from where it started to where it is now, and it just fit in the dialogue,” Eric said. “To me, it made the album.”
Eric teased the song on Instagram in August, only sharing a snippet of the tune. Desperate Man was released in October and is available on all streaming outlets now.
