Two days after George Strait lost his drummer of almost 30 years, Mike Kennedy, in a tragic car accident, the superstar is speaking out.

George took to social media to release a statement about his friend.

“Hard to put into words how much Mike’s passing has affected us all,” George began his statement. “Our hearts are broken. It’s going to be very strange not being able to look over and see him there in his spot on stage and very emotional as well I’m sure for all of us and also his fans. The band will never be the same. A part of us is gone forever. We all loved Mike and will miss him terribly. He was just as solid a friend to us all as he was a drummer, and that was damn solid. Our hearts and prayers are with his family. The Lord has him now. Rest In Peace my friend.”

Mike lost his life on Friday (Aug. 31) when his truck merged into another lane, hitting a tractor-trailer.

Reba took to Instagram to share her condolences to George for his loss. The Oklahoma native lost her entire band and band leader in a 1991 plane crash.

Reba had performed with her band at a show in San Diego on a Friday night. As her band members boarded that fateful flight, Reba stayed back to take a flight the next day. Shortly after takeoff, the plane, flying too low, hit a mountain and went down. Everyone on board lost their lives, including the pilots.

“Thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to the Ace in the Hole Band. George, my heart hurts for you and your organization,” Reba wrote.

Our thoughts remain with George and the entire Ace in the Hole Band family.
