George Strait Drummer, Mike Kennedy, Killed in Car Crash

George Strait is mourning the loss of longtime band member, Mike Kennedy, who was killed in car accident on Friday. He was 59

According to the Tennessean, Mike was driving westbound on I-40 in a 1999 GMC in Wilson County when the crash occurred just before 4 p.m.

Mike was a drummer in George’s Ace in Hole band for almost 30 years. George’s production manager, Paul Rogers took to Twitter to share his feelings.

“The heart beat of our band is gone,” he wrote. “Not sure how we will get back on stage without him. But we must. Much love and respect my dear friend Mike Kennedy.”

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, Mike’s car hit a tractor-trailer as it merged into another lane. No one else was injured in the crash, the Tennessean reports.

Earlier this year, George announced two final shows for 2018, taking place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Dec. 7-8.

Our thoughts go out to George Strait and his entire road family at this difficult time.
