“I Met a Girl” Songwriters Didn’t Think Radio Would Play William Michael Morgan’s Version Because it Was Too Country (But it Went No. 1)

Old Dominion‘s Trevor Rosen, songwriter Shane McAnally and Sam Hunt wrote “I Met a Girl” and then Sam released it on his Mixtape. He sang half of it and talked half of it.

That’s when William Michael Morgan heard the song and decided to put his mark on it.

And at the No. 1 party his version, songwriters Trevor Rosen and Shane McAnally admitted to One Country’s Kelly Sutton that they thought country radio wouldn’t play the song because it was “too country.”

They explain:
