Jake Owen and Travis Tritt Channel Waylon Jennings During a Backstage Jam Session

-

Whenever two or more country stars gather, a jam session, sing-along, guitar pull or collaboration is likely to break out, so it’s no surprise that when Jake Owen and Travis Tritt met up to start work on the new USA TV show, “Real Country,” they had to jam.

In a video Jake shared on Twitter, Travis, dressed very much like Waylon Jennings, picks up a guitar and starts strumming and singing “Brand New Goodbye Song” from the outlaw’s 1977 album, Ol’ Waylon. Jake, one of country music’s youngest historians, happily sings along but seems just as content to be an audience of one in this exclusive behind-the-scenes concert.

“Just a little Waylon Jennings jam session with a legend himself … this show is already amazing. Come see us in person next week!,” Jake wrote.

Even Travis noted Jake’s complete reverence and respect for his country music elders. He tweeted, “I’ve never met a young man who has a better understanding or knowledge of what traditional and roots country music is than he does.”

If you haven’t heard, “Real Country” is a new country music showcase series on the USA Network. Jake and Travis, along with Shania Twain, handpick the acts that will take part in the competition which picks a winner from each episode to compete in a grand finale where the winner will be named one of country music’s breakout acts.

Free tickets are still available for tapings on August 29 and September 2, but you’ll want to act fast to make sure you get in. Big & Rich, Trace Adkins, and Graham Bunn are joining the talented trio on different days to help shoulder some of the responsibility of naming Music City’s hottest new talent.
