Jason Isbell has not always been a friend to the CMA’s, so it came as a surprise when he received an Album of the Year nomination from the association. It seemed the CMA’s were willing to let bygones be bygones, extending an olive branch to “If We Were Vampires” singer. Sadly Isbell will not be attending the awards show but he has a good reason why.
Isbell is currently in Germany playing a string of shows he booked in February of this year that will keep him from attending the awards event.
“We have a show that night in Germany,” Isbell told Rolling Stone Country. “For me to come back for the awards show, I’d have to cancel three shows in Europe on people who’d already paid for a ticket, so I won’t be able to go. But if I didn’t have a show that night, I’d go just for the spectacle of it.”
It is a fair explanation, though some may call foul due to his history of disdain towards the awards ceremony. You can’t blame him for honoring shows he booked seven months before the CMA nominations were announced.
