“The Voice” has yet to produce a star like Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson. Most Americans would struggle naming even one winner of the insanely popular singing series. But, man, they sure have a knack for finding and refining some very talented people.
Case in point: Jesse Larson. Larson has a voice that can blow the roof off and can play guitar, to boot. He’s ambitious, too. You’d have to be to try to cover Chris Stapleton. His songs require intense vocal precision and authentic and a level of comfort with those expert-level vocals to put their heart into the word’s their singing. It’s no easy task.
Larson chose to sing “I Was Wrong”, the new single from Stapleton’s From A Room: Volume 1 and, for the most part, nailed it.
Vocally, he hit every note and elevated with the song. I didn’t feel like he meant the words, but he had fun with the song bringing his Southern rock guitar riffs to the bridge. But even being able to recreate a song like “I Was Wrong” is a testament to his immense talent. While the rest of the pool is talented, few of them could pull of this song the way Larson did.
