There’s a first time for everything. Jon Pardi got had a first time happen when he hosted an award show Wednesday night (Aug. 22), sharing co-hosting duties with Lauren Alaina at the 2018 Academy of Country Music Honors.
The ceremony recognizes ACM Award winners in the off-camera categories, which included Dierks Bentley, Sam Hunt, Darius Rucker, Alan Jackson and Matraca Berg.
Jon and Lauren, opened the show with a tribute to Alan Jackson, who was receiving the Cliffie Stone award. The pair kicked the show off with a bang performing “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow,” and then it was on with the show.
One Country’s Kelly Sutton caught up with Jon, who was decked out in a Manuel Jacket, on the red carpet just before he was about to take the stage as host for the first time.
“Hell no, I never hosted, but they asked me and I was like, ‘why not?’ I’m not a great reader but I’ll try, Jon shared with One Country. “I’m gonna try to ad lib as much as I can. But it gets scary when they want you to say something. That’s the different push and pull. But I’m definitely gonna probably [slur] my words because it’s just hard to read out loud when you aren’t used to it. But you gotta try everything.
“I will say this. Lauren is really good. She’s a pro,” Jon added. “We’ll see how it goes. She may be like, ‘this guy.’ She’s great, we’re going to have fun.”
Jon went on to share, well…nothing, because he couldn’t share the news just yet. He did inform us that he’ll have a new album out next year. But we’ll stay tuned for when he’s ready to reveal the big news.
