In 2015, Justin Timberlake appeared at the 49th Annual CMA Awards with up-and-coming artist Chris Stapleton. The pairing shocked the world with their collaboration of “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Drink You Away.”
It was about 8 minutes long and everyone inside of Bridgestone Arena changed that night– myself included. Stapleton won three awards and his Traveller album sales went up around 1,500 percent. Timberlake’s appearance helped spotlight Stapleton’s incredible talents and nothing has been the same since.
As Timberlake headlined the Pilgrimage Festival in Franklin, Tennessee he told fans he felt like he needed to bring out a few friends because Nashville was his new hometown, “In my new hometown…so, I felt like I had do something special, you know? So I brought some friends with me… This man and this woman that I’m about to bring out have inspired me so much since I met them, not only as an incredible artist, but as a very good man and a hell of a woman…so, Tennessee, say hello to a Kentucky boy and his wife– Chris and Morgane Stapleton.”
As the two (three, really– Morgane cannot be forgotten), Timberlake exclaimed, “I think we should make a deal. Every time either one of us plays Tennessee, the other one is there.”
Whoever books these two together every time they’re in Tennessee is going to be a billionaire.
