Justin Timberlake isn’t a country artist, but it sure looks like he started out as one. In 1992, he walked onto the stage as “Justin Randall” in an oversized hat, bolo tie, boots, and a huge belt buckle to sing Alan Jackson’s “Love’s Got A Hold Of You.” It makes you wonder what could have been, even though the music he makes now is pretty fantastic.
Back then, when he dropped his last name and just went by his first and middle, he had a lot more of a twang. But, even then, he was good at working the crowd. This performance led to his casting on “The Mickey Mouse Club” alongside Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Ryan Gosling. The rest, as they say, is history.
He danced better at 11 than I dance now.
Here’s to hoping his buddy Chris Stapleton makes him do more country.
