For the most part, as a professional, I don’t love writing album reviews because I don’t think a review of an entire body of work– like an album– should be written until someone has spent an inordinate amount of hours with it. It’s also hard not to let personal feelings get in the way of professional opinions. At the end of the day, album reviews really don’t matter, because people like what they like. Justin Timberlake’s most recent album, Man of the Woods, was awful and every critic in American said so. But, people still bought it.
At times, critical acclaim and mass acclaim line-up in perfect accordance and the most recent example of that is with Kacey Musgraves‘ new Golden Hour album. In all of my years of writing and talking about music, I’ve never seen so many critics, fans, musicians and randos agree on something so cohesively.
