Kacey Musgraves to Headline Farm Aid 2018 with Neil Young, Dave Matthews

-

Kacey Musgraves will serve as one of several headliners at Farm Aid 2018. The singer joins longtime Farm Aid performers Neil Young and Dave Matthews at the upcoming festival, which will be held on Sept. 22 in Connecticut.

The annual festival, which aims to raise money for family farmers, will be held at Hartford’s XFINITY Theatre. The day will entail a heavy lineup of country acts including Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, and Margo Price. These acts will perform alongside Farm Aid board members Young, Matthews, Willie Nelson, and John Mellencamp.

Additional performers set to take the festival stage are Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, and Particle Kid. Additional artists are expected to be announced later this summer.

“Family farmers are the backbone of our country,” Willie said in a statement. “But today, they are endangered. Whether we live in cities like Hartford or the rural areas of New England, each of us has the power to create positive, lasting change in our farm and food system and strengthen farm families to help them stay on the land for generations to come.”

Over the years, more than $53 million has been raised for family farmers thanks to Farm Aid. Mellencamp further explains that Farm Aid 2018 will continue to serve as a “rallying cry” to stand up and fight for farmers and their families.

“The crisis farmers are in now is even worse than 1985, because there are fewer farms left to lose,” he added. “Family farmers are becoming an endangered species. They have a whole system stacked against them, and time is running out for Americans to demand a fairer playing field. Farm Aid 2018 has to be a rallying cry for all of us to stand up and fight for these families.”

Farm Aid was held for the first time in 1985 in Champaign, Ill. After several years, the festival returned in 1992 and has been held every year since. Tickets for Farm Aid 2018 will go on sale June 29.
