Created earlier this year by Ryan Seacrest, YouTube’s new competition series, Best.Cover.Ever,” has contestants compete to duet on cover songs with established artists.

“Best.Cover.Ever. is an online music competition brought to us from the production offices of Ryan Seacrest. The series which premiered on Nov. 20, featured superstars Katy Perry, Keith Urban, Jason Derulo, Charlie Puth, Backstreet Boys, Flo Rida, Nicky Jam, DNCE, Demi Lovato and Bebe Rexha.

Each episode is hosted by Hip-Hop artist Ludacris and features a host of superstars who challenge new musicians to perform a cover of one of their songs. The artist picks one winner from among all of the submissions, and that winner gets to perform a duet with that superstar.

Keith Urban signed up for the show to find a unique version of one of his hits. In a preview leading up to the final, Keith said, “I always love the ones that are a totally different take on the song.” Keith asked fans to put their own spin on his song “Somewhere in Car.” Contestants from across the globe submitted their own renditions.

The group HisStory got the nod from Keith Urban for the final duet and end up joining Keith to put a new spin on his 2016 hit, “Wasted Time.”

“I like the arrangement, it’s different than what I do, so I’m trying to sink into it,” Keith said in rehearsal. “Even some of the chords are different from the record. It’s more melancholy. Which is good. It’s got more heart.”
