Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman Sing “Female” For International Day of the Girl

-

Keith Urban has been known for staunch support of women. With his wife and two daughters always on his mind, the Aussie singer recorded the song “Female” as a sign of that support.

“Female” addresses everything from rape culture, to stereotypes, plus some of the good things about being female.

“When somebody laughs and implies that she asked for it / Just ’cause she was wearing a skirt / Oh is that how it works? / When somebody talks about how it was Adam first / Does that make you second best? / Or did he save the best for last?,” Keith sings in the song.

As International Day of the Girl Child is upon us, Keith and his wife, actress Nicole Kidman, wanted to honor the day with a performance of the song. The husband and wife team posted a video on Twitter of them seated at a piano. Keith and Nicole began to sing as their daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret filmed the couple.

“In honor of International – filmed by Sunday and Faith! – KU,” he wrote on Twitter.

International Day of the Girl, an international observance day declared by the United Nations to support and empower young women across the globe, falls on October 11 and aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child!
