Kellie Pickler was 19-years-old when she debuted on “American Idol” in 2006. She literally went from being a Sonic carhop from Albemarle, North Carolina to a recognizable face across the globe.

Kellie has grown-up a lot since then, but mostly, she’s still that same humble, talented and hilarious girl from North Carolina. During a recent interview with BUILD, the humility and hilarity came out in full-force when discussing how much her life has changed in the past 11 years.

Eleven years ago, Kellie didn’t know what an airport gate was or how to find one. Literally.

“It was the first time I’d been on an airplane. I hadn’t been anywhere …Yeah, I was looking for a gate. Like a real gate at the airport. Like a picket fence. The TSA lady she goes, ‘Honey, can I help you?’ I say, ‘I’m trying to find this gate. I don’t see any gates.’ I was like Alice in Wonderland. Lost. Clueless.”

Kellie’s reality show with her husband Kyle Jacobs is back on CMT for a third season, airing Thursdays at 9pm (CST).
