Kelsea Ballerini has had one hell of year. Actually, it’s only been 11 months since her debut album dropped and even less than that since her debut single, “Love Me Like You Mean It” hit No. 1 on the charts. Since last summer she’s been nominated for two CMA Awards, performed at the CMA Awards, honored as Billboard‘s 2015 Rising Star and most recently, Kelsea was named the ACM New Female Artist of the Year and she’s nominated for one more at the 51st ACM Awards.
Kelsea recently sat down with CBS to talk about the last few months– she didn’t really see any of this coming, but she’s always had a purpose to her passion, telling the show that she always wanted to have “depth and I wanted to write songs to empower girls.”
Of course, Kelsea touched on her relationship with Taylor Swift and her desire to stay grounded and keep things in perspective, “I want to be a good person first and a good artist second, that’s the key to success.” Hard to argue with that.
