Kelsea Ballerini’s sophomore album, Unapologetically, is full of hits, including her current single, “Legends.” But, the song on there that’s probably going to have more longevity than any other is the understated, “I Hate Love Songs.”

While Kelsea was finalizing the album she knew it needed a love song. After all, she was engaged and very much in love. The only problem was that, she doesn’t like love songs. Actually, she hates them.

So, in an effort to write a love song, she settled on “I Hate Love Songs,” that is very much an ode to her now husband, Morgan Evans. She loves him so much, she’ll write and sing love songs about him.

I hate love songs

Yeah, I really do

I hate love songs

But I love you

I hate pink hearts with glitter and Valentine’s dinner

And roses just die in a week

We were drunk when we met so we don’t know our anniversary (whoops)

Oh, and I’m far too vain to kiss in the rain

The clouds, they aren’t numbered to nine

And you make me feel something, but it sure as hell ain’t butterflies

Kelsea’s recent performance at the Grand Ole Opry was basically perfect, much like the song.
