Kenny Chesney Gives Raw, Stripped Down Performance of “Jesus & Elvis” On “Late Night With Seth Meyers”

The Tennessee native sat down with Seth to talk about a number of topics including music marketing, Grammy nominations, No Shoes Nation, and his massive relief efforts for the US and British Virgin Islands through his Love for Love City Foundation.

“That place, the Virgin Islands, has been a place that has really fed me as an individual over the years. It’s fed me as a human. It’s been a huge part of my adult life and it has been a big source of creativeness,” Kenny told Seth.” It’s fed me creatively, it’s fed me emotionally, mentally, it’s been a healer. It’s been so many things in my life. I wasn’t there when the night storm happened but I was home watching it like the rest of the world. To see the storm cell go right over the island and I know where my house is and I had 17 people inside my house, going through the storm. That was the most anxiety I had ever felt in my life. I knew then that I was going to do something to help the island, to help the people. And we started Love for Love City and it’s been an unbelievable thing to be a part of.”

In addition to chatting with Seth, the 49-year-old entertainer took the stage to perform a stripped down version of his single “Jesus & Elvis,” featured on his Grammy nominated album Cosmic Hallelujah.

“Jesus and Elvis, painted on velvet / Hanging at the bar here every night / It’s good to be back again, oh, me and my old friends
/ ‘Neath the neon cross and a string of Christmas lights,” Kenny sings in the chorus.

Kenny will be back at in 2018 when he kicks off his Trip Around the Sun Tour on April 21 at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium.
