Actress Kerry Washington is known to play a game or two when she visits the set of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” This appearance was no different.
Kerry has appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres” show on 10 previous occasions, playing games like “Speak Out,”and “5 Second Rule,” but has never been the victim of one of Ellen’s famous scare pranks…until now.
Just because Halloween is over, you are never safe from Ellen scaring the living daylights out of you at some point in your visit.
Under the guise of a new game called Purple Purseword, which is named after the Purple Purse Foundation —an organization Kerry works with, that helps women to leave financially abusive relationships by giving them all the tools they need to take care of themselves with money, Ellen had Kerry just where she wanted her.
The game is played like Password, where each contestant tries to get the other to guess the word they see on a card with only a one world clue. Ellen kicked off the game trying to get Kerry to guess the word dentist. A few rounds of back and forth had Kerry feeling relaxed and comfortable with her skill. It was then that the scare took place and Kerry jumped out of her chair.
“We never got you. You’ve been here 10 times and we never got you,” Ellen said. “It was an oversight that we never scared you so we realized we had to take advantage of it.”
“That’s so mean,” the “Scandal” star said, trying to regain her composure.
But it was all for a good cause, because $10,000 went to the Purple Purse Foundation in the end. Well worth it.
