Country music fans already knew what a talented singer Lauren Alaina is, and we’ve even enjoyed her doing a little bit of acting. It turns out that the effervescent young star also has a natural talent for dancing.
For last night’s (November 4) Dancing With the Stars, Lauren and her professional partner, Gleb Savchenko, were challenged with learning two different dances. For their regular couple’s dance, it was the high energy jive, which they performed to “Hound Dog” by Elvis Presley.
Lauren’s personality, as well as her moves, were in the spotlight for the fun-filled routine, and even though there were a couple of bobbles, the judges were mostly complimentary:
Bruno Tonioli: “Darling, The King himself would have loved that performance. It really had that wonderful, authentic 50s feel – bright, optimistic. You had a good pumping action going through the legs, but you went wrong. You went wrong, my darling. You made three mistakes and it’s a shame. It doesn’t take away from the quality of your dancing, but at this stage in the competition, you really have to be careful not to do those mistakes, but the performance was great.”
Carrie Ann Inaba: “You started that routine and I was like, boom, boom, boom, I was like, ’Oh my gosh, this is going to be amazing.’ You just looked so in your power, every movement so strong, so confident. You did forget something, something went wrong there. I liked the way you played it off. You stood still until everybody caught up and you found your place again, which is a great way to play it, but we could tell. You have a lot going on for you and I’m really loving what you’re doing, so even though you had a setback here, you have another dance to do later tonight. Come back strong and don’t give up.”
Len Goodman: “The competition is getting so intense and there are so many good routines. You went wrong up on the stage a little bit and then there were a few mistakes. I’m just hoping, to quote another Elvis Presley song, that tonight isn’t going to be ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ because you deserve to stay in this competition.”
Lauren and Gleb seemed happy with the 24 they received from the judges, but they had little time to bask in it as they changed outfits for the dance-offs.
Going up against fellow southern belle Hannah Brown and her partner, Alan Bersten, the couples drew the salsa to C + C Music Factory’s “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now),” a dance that neither had performed in the competition yet. Although you would have never known.
Both couples were dazzling and Lauren seemed comfortable with the exaggerated hip shakes, close holds and quick steps that Gleb had choreographed. As you might expect, the judges were torn between who should win the dance-off, which awarded the winner two extra points.
In the end, Hannah and Alan came out on top, however, Lauren and Gleb remain in the competition and will dance to either a boy band or a girl group song next week, the final week before semi-finals.
Sadly, Kate Flannery from The Office was sent home after a robust showing during her tenure
on the show.
