It was movie night on the third episode of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, which means all of the couples were challenged with dancing a routine to a famous song from a popular movie. For country music’s darling, Lauren Alaina, that meant channeling Julia Roberts, a.k.a. Vivian Ward from Pretty Woman, and executing an Oscar-worthy tango to Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman.”

While many think of the signature red gown that Julia wore for the Opera as the stand-out garment, the tango needing something a bit sexier, so Lauren donned a dress similar to what Viv wore on Hollywood Boulevard, along with thigh-high boots, while her professional dance partner, Gleb Savchenko, was suited up like the movie’s Edward Lewis, played by Richard Gere.

Now, country fans may consider Lauren a sweet Georgia peach, and so does her daddy, but for this number, she tapped into her womanly wiles, executing a steamy, sultry tango, filled with dips, spins, kicks and some very, VERY close holds.

Following their performance, Lauren told host Tom Bergeron, “I told my dad not to watch this.”

Judge Len Goodman, who is often the most critical was thrilled with the couple’s performance. “It was full of attack, drive and purpose,” he said. “A little bit stop and start here and there, but the tango you did, I thought, was excellent.”

Judge Bruno Tonioli, who has already fallen under Lauren’s magical southern spell, told her, “That was a racy tango, full throttle. Go for it girl, you’ve got an engine use it.” He added, “Some of the lines were very good. What you have to do now is the transitions. You lose a little bit of balance. Sometimes you finish your pose and yogurt a bit wobbly. Engage your core.”

Finally, judge Carrie Ann Inaba encouraged Lauren to tap into her musicality more. She also said, “When you’re in hold with Gleb, you’re letting your body just sort of lean on him as opposed to holding your own.”

With that, Lauren and Gleb received a respectable score of 20 out of 30 for their tango and with the audience scores added in, they earned their pass to continue on in the competition.

In week four, they’ll take on the Foxtrot. Tune in!
