As a believer, “Mary, Did You Know” has always kind of punched me in the gut. So often we think of the Bible as long ago tales of trials and triumphs, but forget that these were real people. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a teenager when an angel came to her and said, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” (Luke 1:30-33)

Like, what? How scary and confusing.

During CMA’s Country Christmas, Reba McEntire and Little Big Town were tasked with bringing “Mary, Did You Know” to life and boy did they. They didn’t over-do it, they rarely do. Reba’s voice fit into the foursome’s harmonies a number of times and each of them had a chance to sing the lead.

The conviction and stillness in their voices will move you.
