Luke Bryan‘s first single, “Light It Up” off his upcoming album, What Makes You Country, is a dramatic tale about a man and his phone. When the happily married and 41-year-old Bryan sings, “I wake up, I check it, I shower and I check it /I feel the buzz in my truck /And I almost wreck it” it’s not very believable. That’s probably why he reached out to friend and NBA star Jimmy Butler to star in the new video for the tune.
Butler is in his first season with the Minnesota Timberwolves after spending five seasons in Chicago with the Bulls. In 2015 he signed a $95 million, 5-year contract with the Bulls before being traded prior to the 2017 season.
The video was filmed in Nashville and alternates between Bryan singing and Butler going through the routine and playing basketball and waiting for his phone to light up.
Butler drives around town, plays a big game and even becomes so distressed he has to go play basketball alone in a very dark gym to get his mind off his phone. It looks like Butler is playing inside of Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University.
The season just started, but if Butler can drain shots in the dark, he can probably hit some jumpers with people in his face too. Should be a big year for him.
What Makes You Country drops on December 8.
