Luke Bryan brought his fun brand of country to the Gand Ole Opry when he performed “Light It Up.” Bryan converted the stage, known for it’s more conservative performances, into a pop-rock show as Bryan sang about the neurosis that comes when a significant other doesn’t text you back.

“Light It Up” has divided Bryan’s fanbase between those who love the song and those who feel like it is pandering to a younger audience. Bryan, whose beard is peppered with white hairs and has been married ten years, never dated in the iPhone era but brings some real emotion to the lyrics about digital dating.

The synthesizer sitting on top of the grand piano seems emblematic of the song. Bryan is trying something new in a genre that worships the traditional.
