Maddie Poppe had a big night when she was announced the Season 16 winner of “American Idol,” beating out boyfriend Caleb Hutchinson and Gabby Barrett.

During the season finale, it was revealed that winner Maddie was dating the runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson and that’s not all that was revealed. Maddie stopped by “Live with Kelly and Ryan” and revealed a little secret to host Ryan Seacrest, who also hosts “American Idol.”

“I have to tell you guys something. Ryan you’re really bad at hiding the card,” Maddie said. “Every week you have it and I always know I can see it, but I never look. But yesterday, there was a moment where me and Caleb look at each other because we both looked at the card before you said it. I couldn’t help it.”

Ryan jumped out of his chair in disbelief. “How did you look at the card? Hold on for a second,” Ryan yelled.

“You had it and you were right here,” she says positioning Ryan to reenact the night. “I looked over at Caleb and I couldn’t help it and I saw the big Maddie Poppe and I was like, ‘well, hopefully it doesn’t say this is the person who’s getting cut.’”

“This is an outrage,” Kelly yells.

At least Maddie was the only one that knew beforehand. It turned out to be a surprise to the rest of America. Phew!

Maddie went on to sing her debut single, “Going, Going Gone,” written by Julia Michaels, Lindy Robbins, Mitch Allen. You can catch the new “Idol” winner when she hits the road for the American Idol Live! 2018 Tour, kicking off on July 11.
