Fresh off of her first No. 1 hit single, “I Could Use a Love Song,” Maren Morris is releasing her next single “Rich.”
The sassy new tune finds Maren dreaming of an extravagant lifestyle if she had money every time she should have left the man that routinely breaks her heart. In her most bold song choice yet, Maren stays true to herself by using some, should we say, choice words throughout.
“I just try to write how I would say it. I’m only shooting myself in the foot if I write it in a way where I wouldn’t speak like that,” Marren told Rolling Stone. “I don’t get this whole glossing over fun little tidbits of people’s personalities. That’s not how we talk. . . . But it’s also just fun to throw in colorful language, whether it’s a cuss word or not. I want people to listen to this and feel like it’s their friend saying it to them.”
“If I had a dollar every time that I swore you off / And a twenty every time that I picked up when you called / And a crisp new Benjamin for when you’re here then gone again /And a dollar every time I was right about you after all.
“Boy I’d be rich, head-to-toe Prada / Benz in the driveway, yacht in the water / Vegas at the Mandarin, high roller gambling / Me and Diddy drippin’ diamonds like Marilyn / No I wouldn’t be drowning in all your IOU’s / Every promise you made me would have some real value / ‘Cause all the little lies rolling on your lips / Is money falling from the sky (ka-ching, ka-ching) shit I’d be rich / La la la di da / I’d be rich / La la la di da.”
Co-penned by Maren, Laura Veltz and Jessie Jo Dillon, “Rich” is the fourth single from Maren’s 2016 album, Hero and the follow-up to her No. 1 single “I Could Use a Love Song.”
