Popstar and country music lover Miley Cyrus surprised her fans Friday night with a pop-up show in her hometown of Nashville, for the release of her sixth studio album, Younger Now.

The singer held the event at the famed Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge in downtown Nashville. While it was meant to be a surprise, word got out in the morning and fans waited in line, clamoring to get in to the special event.

Younger Now is comprised of 11 tracks written or co-written by the 24-year-old, including a duet with her godmother and country legend Dolly Parton, called “Rainbowland. No, Dolly did not show up at the release party but wouldn’t it have been great if she did. However, there was a special guest and that was Cyrus’ dad, Billy Ray Cyrus.

Billy Ray and his daughter held a fan Q&A session prior to the show, where they shared some special family memories and the best dad advice.

“What I always tell Miley is watch what I do and don’t do that and you’ll usually get through life pretty good—learn by my mistakes. That’s the good news about my life being so tragic, Mile can look at my life and go— you can learn by my mistakes, that’s a good thing.”

To that Miley joked, “Don’t grow a mullet, basically.”

When asked what Miley taught her dad, the “The Climb” singer chimed in, “How to roll a better joint.” But Billy Ray got serious saying, “To be real and stand up for what you believe in. I’m so proud of her. It takes a lot of courage to stand up and I’m really proud of you for that.I’m glad you asked that question.”

As the performance began, Miley broke into a variety of songs, both from the new album and old fan favorites including “Malibu,” “Younger Now,” “See You Again” “4×4,” and “Inspired.”

Billy Ray joined his daughter on stage for a rockin’ rendition of “These Boots Were Made for Walking,” only to be kept on stage for …you guessed it…his own 1992 mega hit, “Achy Breaky Heart.” The Tennessee native closed out the show with her 2009 hit “Party in the U.S.A.”

After the concert, Miley’s dad took to Instagram to rave about the evening saying, “Way too much fun singin’ #AchyBreakyHeart25 with my little girl! Love you so much @MileyCyrus! What a special night. #proudpappy #YoungerNo.”

“Today In Nashville” was in the crowd and captured some of the Q&A and a performance of “See You Again” and “4X4” from Miley.
