The news of Troy Gentry’s death from a helicopter crash on Sept. 8 shocked the country music industry. Artists, industry members, co-workers, friends and fans alike shared their sorrow with an outpouring of love on social media, as that news spread.
Montgomery Gentry, comprised of Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry, received many accolades during their 18 years together. One that meant a lot to the duo was their induction to the Grand Ole Opry in 2009. Troy and Eddie were inducted by Marty Stuart and the late Little Jimmy Dickens.
“I know these men on and off stage, and I find them to be gentlemen in every respect. I welcome them to our family of entertainers,” Dickens said about the guys during the induction.
In a tribute to Gentry, the Grand Ole Opry shared a video of the popular duo performing “Where I Come From”—a Top 10 hit— on July 1, 2017. This performance would become Troy Gentry’s last Opry performance.
R.I.P. T-Roy – You are truly missed.
