Rascal Flatts Return with Powerful New Love Song “Back to Life” [Listen]

-

Rascal Flatts have released a brand new song Friday (Sept. 28), called “Back to Life.” The first taste of new music from the country trio in over a year, the soaring mid-tempo ballad serves as an ode to the band’s wives.

“She puts that beat in my chest, pounds like a drum, shakes me like thunder / Taking my hand, pulling me up when I’m going under / My dreams come alive when I wake up and look in her eyes / She brings me back to life,” they sing on the chorus.

“Back to Life” was written by Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney, Cary Barlowe, Fred Wilhelm and Niko Moon, and produced by Rascal Flatts. As Gary LeVox explains, the band immediately knew the song was meant for them upon first hearing the track.

“The first moment we heard this song, we knew it was meant for us,” Gary says in a statement. “There are so many little things that add up to making someone so uniquely special to you, and this song captures that love and conveys all the good feelings that come along with it. We’re at an exciting point in our careers, and we’re fortunate to be able to just focus on making and releasing music that speaks to us and hopefully resonates with the fans.”

One line in particular, “I don’t want to think about where I would be without her,” the guys relate to their wives. “That’s how we look at our wives, as just being the anchors, and our moms. They’re the ones that keep us from going under half the time,” Gary tells Billboard.

“It’s a pretty empowering song for women to let them know how much power they really have when it comes to being a support system for their husbands, and how much life they can bring to us whenever we’re going through dark times,” Jay DeMarcus adds.

The trio most recently celebrated back-to-back chart-topping singles “Yours If You Want It” and “I Like the Sound of That.” “Back To Life” is the band’s first taste of new music since those two singles but they tell Billboard it’s not necessarily from their forthcoming 11th album. Instead, they’re planning to embrace the industry’s single driven culture by releasing a series of singles ahead of a full-length project.
