As a longtime friend of President George H.W. Bush and Barbra Bush, Reba McEntire was asked to perform at the President’s funeral at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston on Thursday (Dec. 6).

Reba, dressed in a black dress with a silver cross hanging from her neck, performed “The Lord’s Prayer” in song. “Our father which art in heaven / Hallowed be Thy name / Thy kingdom come / Thy will be done / On earth / As it is in heaven,” she sang.

George and Laura Bush, Jeb and Columba Bush, and the Bush family looked on from the front pew. At one moment during the powerful performance, former President George W. Bush dabbed his eyes with a handkerchief to wipe away tears.

Reba’s beautiful performance during the funeral would make her friend, George H.W. Bush, proud.

After hearing of President Bush’s death, Reba took to Instagram to share her condolences and the special memories she shared with the President.

“Everyone in country music was so honored when President and Mrs. Bush joined us at the CMA Awards. #greatpresident #greatfriend,” Reba wrote. “One of many great times we got to be with President Bush. Mrs. Bush is smiling up a storm this morning!!! What a great life he had.”

The Lord’s Prayer

Our father who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth
As it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts
As we forgive our debtors
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom
And the power
And the glory forever
For Thine is the kingdom
And the power
And the glory forever
Amen
