Help us. Have mercy on us.
We are sickened by the chaos, the violence, and the suffering in Las Vegas. We are confused and angered by the careless destruction of life. Lord, be with the many innocent people who were shot and injured during the chaos in Las Vegas. Comfort them. We pray you heal them. We pray you give the families who lost children, brothers, sisters, fathers, and mothers peace that goes beyond all understanding. We cannot imagine their pain, confusion, anger, or grief. We ask you be with them, Lord.
Give those of us who were not in Las Vegas the eyes to see and the willingness to comfort those in pain, to mourn with those who are mourning, to serve those in need, and to be active in our forgiveness for those who act against us. Give us hearts to love our enemies, to pray for them as Jesus taught (Matt 5:44). It is difficult, Lord. Help us.
How long, Lord, until you return all things to right? How long until Jesus will shout, “Behold I make all things new” (Rev. 21:5), and every tear will be wiped away? How long until there is no more sickness and pain? How long until there are no more active shooters and innocent bystanders? How long?
Father, we know you are not far from this pain, that your Son was familiar with grief and loss. He knows the pain of losing a loved one, a friend..and he sympathizes with us in our weakness (Heb 4:15). Be near us, God, our God, the God who sees us in our distress. Our Comforter, our Redeemer, our Good Father, come quickly.
Come, Lord Jesus!
We humbly pray this by the power of your Holy Spirit in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ,
