As we near the end of 2016, it’s only fitting that One Country shares a few of those classic, end of the year lists. Like you, we are kind of bored with the typical end of the year lists, so we’re putting our own spin on a few!
Normally, country music is full of drinking and heartbreak songs, but this year country music was all about grown-up sexy music. Some, sexier than others. Better turn on the A/C to revisit these tunes.
10 Sexiest Country Music Songs of 2016:
1. “Black” // Dierks Bentley
We all believed Bentley’s Black album was truly named after his wife’s maiden name until we heard him sing:
My hands, they know where to go
To find your finger tips
Trace ’em back to your lips
Take you on a trip
Flip that switch
Make my world go black
Hit me like a heart attack
Knock me flat on my back, yeah, just keep doing that
2. “Cigarette” // Frankie Ballard
This definitely isn’t a love song, but if you like bad boys and lung cancer or at least a guy who’s willing to admit he’s going to break your heart this is the song for you.
3. “Bad Boy” // Miranda Lambert
There are several follow-ups to “Vice” on Lambert’s The Weight of These Wings, but “Bad Boy” dives head first into one of those vices.
The more I don’t wanna leave this bar alone
The whisky’s making me wonder why
You wear your hat down low, but your walls are high
How long you gonna hide behind them walls of stone?
4. “If He Ain’t Gonna Love” // Jake Owen
That guitar riff and those backup vocals from Chris Stapleton will make you think.
5. “Take Me Down” // Vince Gill with Little Big Town
Oh, you forgot Gill was the king of being subtly sexy? Think again. Gill’s only single of the year was a gradual build to super sexy, which totally draws you with each note he sings. Throwing in harmonies from Little Big Town didn’t hurt either.
6. “21 Summer” // Brothers Osborne
Nostalgia works for these guys even when they’re talking about the backseat of a Chevy.
7. “Blue Ain’t Your Color” // Keith Urban
Admittedly, I was never on the “Keith Urban is sexy” train until I heard him sing this. And technically, I don’t know if this is a waltz, a doo-wop or a straight-up slow jam, I just know I like it.
8. “You Can Come Over” // Brandy Clark
Sometimes, Clark’s lyrics are so witty you forget she can do other stuff. And boy can she.
I’d put on that record
You’d give me that look
Oh, you know the one
Boy, I can betcha
By the end of that first verse
The damage would be done
‘Cause one glass of wine always leads to two
When it comes to me and you
10. “Star of the Show” // Thomas Rhett
Cute and fun is sexy and right now, no one is doing that better than Rhett. Plus, it’s just really nice to see someone so over the moon in love, right?
