If you haven’t heard about HBO’s latest series, “Vinyl” you probably haven’t heard of a lot of things. The series is being produced by Mick Jagger and Martin Scorcese and centers on a fictional record label and its employees in rock ‘n’ roll’s heyday during the 1970s.

The soundtrack is largely what you would expect from a show about the era, but the theme song is a totally different ballgame.

Sturgill Simpson‘s “Sugar Daddy” is a fuzzy, rockin’ bluesy number that fits right in with the show, but is nothing like Simpson‘s work on his 2014 Metamodern Sounds in Country Music album. It almost makes you think Simpson was around back then or something. But, we’ve also known he was from a different time, anyway.
