Since moving to Nashville in 2015, newcomerTenille Arts’ career has been on a steady climb. In a short span of time, the Canada native signed a publishing deal and recorded and released her self-titled EP, only to see it debut at No. 1 on the Canadian country album chart.
Singing from the tender age of 8, Tenille was put on the path toward music when her neighbor heard her singing in her backyard and encouraged her mother to get her into music. With vocals reminiscent of Lee Ann Womack, Tenille first started gaining fans while doing covers of songs by Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Lady Antebllum on You Tube.
Fast forward to today and the 23-year-old singer-songwriter is releasing her debut full-length album, Rebel Child, Friday, Oct. 20. The new album contains 11 tracks, 10 of which were co-written by the singer/songwriter, and includes her first official U.S. single “Cold Feet.”
“Rebel Child is my first full-length album,” Tenille tells One Country. “To me, a rebel child is anyone who takes a different path and paves their own way. Each song shows a different side of me, and I hope people are able to connect and feel everything I was feeling while writing them.”
One such song, featured on the album, is “Run Out of You,” about missing a significant other and trying to hold on to little reminders during their absence. The idea for the song came from a real life experience with her boyfriend and One Country has the exclusive first listen of the track.
“I wrote ‘Run Out Of You’ with Adam Wheeler,” Tenille reveals. “I got the idea when my long-distance boyfriend sent me a gift, and in the bottom of the package there was one of his shirts that smelled like his cologne. It made me think about how quickly that fades. It’s about missing someone and trying to hold onto the little things that they left behind. “
“In the back of the closet / gray sweatshirt that ain’t mine / your cologne still on it / and I know it’s fading with time / but I need it so I breathe it in / bottle of Tequila / we brought back from Mexico / take a shot when I need ya / but I never lose control / cause I know when it’s gone, it’s gone. I felt just enough to get me / through all these lonely nights / getting by on the high I get from / what you left behind / but I don’t know what I’m gonna do / when I run out of you,” Tenille kicks off the song.
Rebel Child is available at all digital outlets and amazon.com beginning today (Oct. 20).
