Other than sitting at the top of Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart for 17 weeks throughout 2015 and 2016, Thomas Rhett‘s “Die A Happy Man” also won Single of the Year at the ACM and CMA Awards, was nominated for Best Country Song at the GRAMMYs and covered by Nelly.
The song was such a huge success that TR himself calls back to it on his third album, Life Changes, in the title track verse about his wife, “And I wrote a little song about holding her hand and now everybody wanna die happy now.”
Thomas knows it was huge and when the Bobby Bones Show asked, “do you ever feel that you’ll have a song better than ‘Die A Happy Man’?”
His response was simple, “I don’t know, I’ve been trying to write it…even the label said this might be a career-song for me…”
Our guess? He’ll have a few more like it before it’s all said and done.
