When it’s all said and done, Thomas Rhett is likely going to go down in history as the guy who sang the sweetest, most real life love songs about his real life and wife, Lauren Akins. He’ll also be remembered for dancing and dressing like Justin Timberlake, among other things.
“Die A Happy Man” will be his signature song for a long, long time but, “Marry Me” will likely be his most upsetting and raw.
TR recently told Ty, Kelly and Chuck about it. “It’s completely the opposite of a love song,” he said. “This song, although it doesn’t pertain to my life today, it definitely easily could have been that if I had never gone up to Lauren and told her how I felt about her for so long…”
When you remember that TR and Lauren met in elementary school and think about where they are today—with two beautiful daughters—the lyrics will make you squirm a little. Also, once you listen to it, you’ll probably want to call your high school crush and confess any lingering feelings you might still have for them.
That, or you might want to write Thomas and Lauren a note congratulating them on this not being their story.
“Marry Me” is off TR’s brand new Life Changes, which is out now.
