Thomas Rhett is unstoppable right now. Fresh off an upset-esque win for ACM Male Vocalist of the Year, Rhett has announced a new venture in conjunction with his dad, hit songwriter Rhett Akins, his manager Virginia Davis and Roc Nation– Home Team Publishing. (For clarification: Thomas Rhett is actually Thomas Rhett Akins, after his dad. For this article he’s Thomas and his dad will be identified as Rhett.)
“I was a songwriter before I was an artist. I was lucky enough to find a team that believed in me really early on. Songwriting is the foundation for my artist career, so I’m excited and honored to be able to invest in the future of the songwriting community,” Thomas said in a statement.
Thomas’ personal publishing will stay with his long-standing publisher EMI/SONY.
The father-son duo have numerous No. 1 hits between the two of them and have been co-writing together for years.
“Thomas and Rhett are both excellent songsmiths, and they bring such a wonderful perspective to publishing. They are both real writers, and have a genuine love for the craft. When Rhett goes out on the road with Thomas, they can’t help but hop on the bus after a show and play each other the newest songs that they have written. They both have a genuine love for this, and are two of the hardest-working people that I know,” Davis told Billboard.
