Tim McGraw and Faith Hill Say Gun Control is Not About the Second Amendment

-

A couple of years ago, Tim McGraw agreed to headline a benefit concert for Sandy Hook Promise, an organization that advocates for responsible gun ownership. People went crazy, his opener Billy Currington dropped out of the show and all kinds of other backlash. Of course, McGraw recovered from the whole thing, but now– he’s using his voice for responsible gun ownership.

McGraw and Faith Hill sat down with Billboard a couple of weeks after the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas and had a few things to say about guns, the Second Amendment and hunting.

“Look, I’m a bird hunter ― I love to wing-shoot. However, there is some common sense that’s necessary when it comes to gun control. They want to make it about the Second Amendment every time it’s brought up. It’s not about the Second Amendment,” McGraw shared.

Hill agreed, “In reference to the tragedy in Las Vegas, we knew a lot of people there. The doctors that [treated] the wounded, they saw wounds like you’d see in war. That’s not right. Military weapons should not be in the hands of civilians. It’s everyone’s responsibility, including the government and the National Rifle Association, to tell the truth. We all want a safe country.”

The day after the shooting the couple released a statement on Instagram, “The world has endured so many tragedies this year. Each one heart wrenching in its own unique way. And then this morning. We can’t even begin to express all of our feelings waking up to the news that country music fans lost their lives in a tragic shooting last night in Las Vegas. Knowing so many people working at the show and worrying for their well-being and safety. And the fans. Above all our hearts break for each and every one of them affected by this senseless act. Let us help each other find a way to deal with the emotional trauma of these difficult times. – Faith and Tim”
