Just in time for Mother’s Day, Tim McGraw has released a lyric video that is the perfect homage to the women who are responsible for making us who we are, “I Called Mama.”

Written by Lance Miller, Marv Green and Jimmy Yeary, Tim told reporters that he recorded the song well before the world was turned upside down by the novel coronavirus. He said, “When all of the upheaval in the world came along, it really started making more and more sense that this song really meant a different thing in a lot of ways. It carried a lot of weight along with it. As you listen to it, you think about the personal level, but to have something that’s sort of existential in a way that it speaks to things that are going on outside of what this song is saying and to have a personal song that is something that big when you look at it from a different perspective when the world changed, it was hard to ignore. It was hard to not pay attention the song being, for me, a catharsis at this time. I hope that’s what it means and I hope that’s what it feels like to people when they hear it.”

The lyric video contains never-before-seen footage of Tim as an infant with his mother, as well as with the mother of his three beautiful daughters, Faith Hill, however, another traditional music video will be released later this month that includes videos and photos submitted by fans of themselves with their mothers.

This is Tim’s first single since signing with Big Machine Records earlier this year.

Tim sat down with One Country’s Kelly Sutton to talk about the new single. Listen to what Tim has to say.
