Vince Gill was scheduled to be part of what was arguably one of the best moments of the CMA Awards, but unfortunately the singer was hospitalized and had to miss the performance.
In a tribute to Ricky Skaggs, Vince Gill was set to be on stage with Ricky, Marty Stuart, Sierra Hull and Carson Peters for a performance tribute to Ricky, where they would perform the Bluegrass artists hits.
However, TJ and John Osborne of the Brothers Osborne broke the news about Vince’s absence while talking to “Pickler and Ben’s” Kellie Picker and Ben Aaron on the CMA red carpet. When asked what they were most looking forward too, the duo revealed Vince’s hospitalization.
“I don’t know that the Ricky Skaggs thing has been announced, or not,” TJ said. “John is sitting in with Ricky Skaggs and Keith Urban and I’m really looking forward to watching that.”
“Vince Gill is unfortunately in the hospital, he has a kidney stone,” John added. “So Vince Gill’s kidney stone was the best thing that happened to me.”

As they got the news of Vince’s illness, CMA Award show director Robert Deaton asked Keith Urban and John Osborne to fill on Vince’s guitar and vocalist roles.
Following the show, The Boot reports that Ricky confirmed Vince’s illness while talking about sharing the stage with Keith to perform his hit “Highway 40 Blues”
“To have Keith Urban here to sing ‘Highway 40’ with me — we’ve done that at the Opry, but not here,” Ricky told the media. “He was sitting in for Vince Gill, who couldn’t make it because of a little sickness.”
We’re hoping Vince gets well and has a speedy recovery.
