If you haven’t heard of newcomer Walker Hayes just yet, get ready. The Alabama native, and father of six, is about to unleash his music on the world with the release of his debut album, boom.

The new album, out Dec. 8, is produced by award-winning producer Shane McAnally (Midland, Kacey Musgraves), and includes Hayes’ debut single, “You Broke Up With Me,” currently at No. 29 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay Chart and No. 25 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart.

The album’s title, boom, explains a lot. The name is symbolic of the explosion this newcomer is about to make on the country music scene. Not to mention the lowercase spelling that makes it stand out from other titles.

“‘boom!’ It’s my favorite word. It’s what I text my team every time another station adds ‘You Broke Up With Me’… It’s the first thing I say after I play a song from the album for anyone,” Hayes explains. “So, it’s what we had to call the album. I’m just so excited to share another part of the story. BOOM!”

While it may seem that Hayes came out of nowhere, the singer has been plugging away since 2005 when he moved to Nashville looking for a record deal. He was previously signed to Capitol Records where he released two singles — “Pants” and “Why Wait for Summer.” Neither saw much success at radio, so he ended up parting ways with the label..

Fast forward to today and the newcomer has a fresh and original sound—some may say unconventional— desperately needed at country radio. Hayes currently has a single in the Top 30 on the country charts, is releasing his debut album on Dec. 8 and is the flagship artist for the newly launched Monument records. The singer-songwriter also wrote or co-wrote every song on the 10-track album.

You’ve come a long way baby. Now, hold on to your hats, here comes Walker Hayes.
