Zac Brown Band tackles depression in their new music video for “Someone I Used To Know.” The nearly five-minute clip stars “Hunger Games” actor Alexander Ludwig as he goes from college football star to Army recruit to coal miner after being injured in battle. Along the way, Alexander deals with his demons through alcohol before finding solace in those around him.

The poignant music video has the band encouraging people to open up and share their own tales of personal struggle. They want fans to know they’re not alone and there is always hope for those who are experiencing hardships, especially during the holiday season.

“‘Someone I Used To Know’ is a touch point to remind people that they don’t have to be alone in what they feel,” frontman Zac Brown says at the video’s end. “And that they’re not alone. Pain and depression doesn’t discriminate. This song is me facing that part of myself of where I want to go and not where I’ve been.”

He adds, “I would encourage people that when they feel they have a need or they have a voice that’s telling them to face something, it’s a sign of strength to ask for help and to face the things that are really hard. That’s what defines you, overcoming those things.”

At the clip’s end, Alexander is embraced by those around him and ZBB share this message with viewers: “You don’t have to go through this alone. Share your story and #SpreadHope,” they write.

“Someone I Used To Know” is Zac Brown Band’s latest single and first taste of new music since 2017’s Welcome Home. The song was written with pop star Shawn Mendes.
