Just in time for debate season, “Saturday Night Live” returned this weekend for its 42nd season. Of course, the opening sketch was bound to be about the recent presidential debate. It was more of a SparkNotes of the debate rather than a satire of it. But what could the poor writers of “SNL” do? They certainly couldn’t top the insanity that happened last week on the real debate stage.
My top highlights:
Kate McKinnon, lampooning the accusations of Clinton’s decaying health by brandishing a walking cane and coughing repeatedly, tumbling into a somersault and claiming she’s “better than ever.’
The shade of orange they got Baldwin’s skin.
Trump pronouncing “China.”
The writers are going to have their work cut out for them this season.
