Move over cowpokes, ranch hands, and steer rustlers– there’s a new sheriff in town. A beaver in Saskatchewan recently herded 150 cows simply by being curious. The cows crowded behind the beaver as he wandered the land looking for food. They followed, stopped, and sped up with the flat-tailed rodent following their leader to new lands, or at least across their pasture.
These cattle aren’t being driven, they’re being led. Maybe curiosity is strong new method that should be investigated by cattle ranchers. Or maybe beavers can be trained to herd cattle. Either way, I think we’re onto something here. Ride ’em in and cut ’em out lil’ buddy!
