There are a million entertaining opinions on the internet. You can find 50,000 ways to style a mason jar on Pinterest and 100,000 photos for inspiration on Instagram. With so many options, who should you really rely on. Someone who knows that queso, margaritas, and guacamole are a must. Someone who grew up going to White House parties but still has a laid back Southern style. Someone who knows every good party begins with Willie and ends with dancing. Those people are the Bush twins, Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush.
The key is being laid back and thinking of your guests. Of course, you must consider etiquette and formality, this is the South, after all. Jenna suggests seating arrangements to help conversation, and loads of cheese–particularly truffle cheese and pimento in the south.
“If someone buries me in a truffle cheese, I’ll be perfectly happy. That would be my last meal: just a large truffle cheese and some crackers.”
Their other advice:
- Don’t take yourself too seriously
- Start with slow music and slowly build throughout the evening
- Write more and never underestimate the power of a thank you note
- Keep the conversation feisty but be polite. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.
