It’s no secret that Calvin Harris has been killing it with the singles this year.
First, he released the uber-successful “How Deep Is Your Love,” then he introduced us to that epic (and somewhat controversial) “This Is What You Came For” collaboration with Rihanna, then he released his ’90s-esque “Hype” and now, he’s gifted the world with yet another new single called “My Way” — which may or may not be a diss to Taylor Swift.
“[The] song’s kind of about breaking out of a situation that you thought was a good thing,” he told iHeart Radio in an interview. “Then, you’re way more comfortable out of it. And it could be anything. It could be a job, or it could be a relationship. I had kind of the idea for the concept for a few years, but I didn’t know how to work out how it sounded.”
Now, if you’ll remember, the couple’s year-long romance ended on super rocky terms earlier this year, with Calvin taking to Twitter claiming he wouldn’t let Taylor “bury him” like she buried Katy Perry in the past — yikes.
So, is the song about Taylor? Who knows, but it kind of seems like it.
He also told iHeart that he decided to use his own vocals on this particular track because “the time [was] right.”
“I like to sing on a song every two or three years, or so,” he said. “I just kind of thought it was a bit of a curve ball. I kind of like the idea of just tracking something out without a celebrity guest feature, and I think the vocal works, so why not.”
