It’s no question that HGTV’s Chip and Joanna Gaines have become a phenomenon because of their ability to flip homes, but throughout their rise to fame, people have also noticed something else about them — their marriage is solid.

During a recent interview with I Am Second, the couple sat down to tell their full, raw, unfiltered love story, and honestly, it’s even better than I would’ve imagined.

Apparently, before Joanna met Chip, she was the quiet one who was content to live in the background and liked comfort and predictability. On the complete other hand, Chip was risky, dangerous, care-free and an extreme dreamer.

“If you give Chip a boundary, he’s going to break that boundary, if you give him a rule he’s not going to follow it, and if you tell him, ‘You can’t go over this line,’ he’s going to put his toe over it,” Joanna says.

“I would play a little game with myself to see how out of gas I could get without in fact running completely out of gas, and she was like, ‘Why would anyone want to play that?’,” Chip adds.

Despite of (and because of) their differences, the two fell madly, deeply in love and have come to consider their drastically different personalities a blessing in their marriage, as well as something that has brought them closer to Christ.

Toward the end of the interview, Joanna shares how her marriage to Chip has influenced her relationship with Christ — and honestly, this part made me tear up.

“I feel like God had a funny way of bringing me Chip, to almost have the reality of what it looks like to follow Christ,” she says. “My walk with God when I was little and all the way up until my like 20s was always, if you play by the rules, you’ll be blessed. But, then I met Chip, and now I feel that it’s, when you take a step out in faith, when it makes absolutely no sense, I think that’s where the greater reward is.”

I’ve never wanted to be like this couple more than I do right now.
