Jesus Campos was a security guard at Mandalay Bay the night of October first when a shooter opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. He was the first person to approach the shooter’s room and was shot through the door as he tried to gain entry. He and building engineer Stephen Schuck sat down with Ellen Degeneres to describe what happened that night and how they are moving forward.
After sharing his story, Ellen thanked Jesus for sharing his story and celebrated his heroism and selflessness in the face of danger. She mentioned that Campos does not want to visit other shows or retell his story over and over again. He would rather try to move on than relive that night.
Neither of the men wanted money or much thanks for their actions, but Ellen presented them with three large gifts to say “thank you” for their actions that night. Stephen Schuck is being sent to meet and watch his favorite NFL team, the Indianapolis Colts and Shutterfly gave Campos season tickets to watch his favorite team, the soon-to-be Las Vegas Raiders, next season. Shutterfly then made a gift to Las Vegas survivor support of $25,000 in their names.
